FAQ Schema markups: More clicks from organic Google search with Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP

To get into the related questions section at the top of Google Search, you can set up your answered questions with FAQ schema markup. This could give you additional, valuable clicks organically.

Sometimes the clicks from organic Google searches stagnate, although new content is constantly being published. And sometimes the number of clicks falls month after month despite the constant flow of new content. This can have many causes, such as a reduced search volume for the keywords or increased competition. Technical factors can also play a role if the loading time has been overtaken by competitors due to outdated website technology.

However, another reason is more obvious in such a situation: Perhaps the solution is not to fight against time with ever new waves of content in order to maintain access numbers – but to build up the inside of the SEO-relevant website technology. One of the relevant areas here would be filing schema markup. Storing FAQ schema markups is particularly promising, since the individual URLs of the website can then be included in the similar questions area at the top of the Google search. This is a very attractive ranking position as they are on the first page of search results and also at the top. A wildcard that can attract a lot of organic clicks.

The Similar Questions section at the top of Google Search. Since the area is on the first search results page and at the same time appears very prominently at the top, there are huge opportunities to generate organic clicks here.

When a similar question is expanded, the texts for questions and answers are pulled directly from the FAQ schema markup. The URL is also linked, so we can generate a lot of organic traffic here.

Wordpress-Plugin: Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP

Appearing in the “Similar Questions” section at the top of Google search results is not always a given and tends to be sporadic on its own. In order for the Google algorithm to even consider putting a URL in the similar questions area from the start, we need to add FAQ schema markup to the corresponding subpage to signal the algorithm that there is a question and answer rich snippet there. This can in turn be formatted in JSON format directly from Google in the similar questions-area to be implemented. Schema markup is structured data formatting designed to allow search engines to associate specific elements directly with specific properties for inclusion in presentations that go beyond normal searches. This is exactly what FAQ schema markup is good for: it signals Google that there is an FAQ page here and shows what question is asked and what the answer to it is directly in the structured data.

Anyone who uses WordPress, the world’s most popular website CMS, can use the WordPress plugin Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP to enter the FAQ schema markups in JSON format for individual pages. As a precaution, you should make a backup of your website before installing, as some users report that there were compatibility problems during installation. Once you’ve installed the plugin, click on one of your pages in the WordPress dashboard, then click Edit and scroll down. Here you will see a section titled Schema & Structured Data on this post where you can edit the formatting of the structured data. By clicking on Custom Schema you can store your FAQ schema markups. You can find out what you have to enter for this in the next section.

Go to the edit mode of the relevant page in WordPress, scroll down and click on Custom Schema. Here you can store your structured data in the form of an FAQ schema markup in JSON format.

Create FAQ schema markup and format it for use on the website

Google FAQ schema markup formatting template

First of all, you should decide for yourself which questions and answers are most suitable for the similar questions area in Google search. That means: What questions might interest users, and what answers does your content page give? Is there perhaps a high keyword search volume for certain questions, or do relevant keywords appear in your question? Once you’ve determined that, and thought of a few questions for each page of content you want, you would need to represent it in a structured data set in JSON format. There is a formatting template from Google in which you can store your relevant questions and answers.

Replaced in the structured data fields:

@type”: “Question”,

        “name”: “ Write your question here “,

        “acceptedAnswer”: {

          “@type”: “Answer”,

          “text”: “<p> Write the answer to the question here </p>”

Example: This is what the structured data (FAQ schema markups) would look like in the website page source if we were to add the Google formatting template to WordPress. The texts (i.e. the questions and the answers) would have to be replaced accordingly.

This is what the structured data (the FAQ schema markup) would look like in the page source of the content page.

Track indexing of FAQ schema markups in Google Search Console

Done: If everything worked for you, you can request a re-indexing of your content pages in Google Search Console and check the days if your FAQ schema markup has been included in the rich results of Google Search. If you haven’t used FAQ schema markup yet, the option to view it will be hidden in Google Search Console. As soon as the first structured data for FAQs has been collected, you will see them in the dashboard in the left menu bar under the item “ Improvements ” under “ FAQs ”.

You can track the indexing of your structured data (FAQ schema markup) in Google Search Console in the left menu bar under Improvements > FAQs .

Overview: FAQ schema markups in the field of search engine optimization (SEO)

FAQ schema markups are special code snippets that are inserted into a website’s HTML structure. They are used to inform search engines such as Google that FAQs (frequently asked questions) are provided on the relevant page. Using FAQ schema markup can be very beneficial for businesses as it helps the page to be found more easily in search engine results. When a user enters a question that is answered in the FAQs on the site, the page is more likely to appear at the top of search engine results.

Additionally, FAQ schema markup can also help to improve user experience on the website. When a user enters a question that is answered in the FAQs on the site, the answers are displayed right below the search bar, making it easier for the user to quickly find the information they are looking for. To implement FAQ schema markup on a website, the questions and answers must be specified in the website’s source code as JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) format. This can be done either manually or using tools like the Google Search Console.
